Here are some things from episode 1x20 "Everybody Hates Regina" er... "The Stranger".
After being served by Mary Margaret, Regina feels that Henry needs a new teacher. Henry calls her out on framing Mary Margaret and on being the Evil Queen. He informs Regina that she needs to quit because Snow's happy ending is inevitable. He also proclaims, "And I'm not transferring classes."
He checks out her car and diagnoses the problem—a dead battery. He offers Regina and her rocky road ice cream a ride home. They arrive at Regina's, and she asks him if he'd like to stay for dinner. He can't because it's late and he has to get up early the next day. He carries her groceries inside where Regina has setup a fake note from Henry. She pretends to read from the fake note then tells David that Henry won't be coming home for dinner. She appears crestfallen, and David changes his mind about staying for dinner. After dinner, he volunteers to do the dishes. Regina follows him into the kitchen and recounts the story of how she found him then ends it by trying to kiss him. He dodges Regina's kiss as fast as Edward dodged Bella's. But there are no trees for him to leap into, so he faces her and lets her down nicely, telling her that they're just friends.
Geppetto places Pinocchio into the wardrobe and bids him farewell not unlike Jor-El's adieu to Kal-El [Superman] before Krypton exploded.
Little Pinocchio was told by the Blue Fairy and Geppetto that he shouldn't lie. He takes their sage advice and even reminds his father about honesty when Geppetto doesn't heed the Blue Fairy's word about sending Snow through the wardrobe instead of himself. Geppetto tells Pinocchio to forget what the Blue Fairy said and it's fine to lie sometimes. He then tells Pinocchio to remember what the Blue Fairy said and remind Emma who she is in twenty-eight years. With such hypocrisy, it's no wonder he reneged on his word to Geppetto and ditched Emma.
Lesson: Only tell the truth when it's convenient.
Possibly a nod to Judy Garland's line from The Wizard of Oz, "Oh! Oh! Jiminy Crickets!" or to the actress herself.

Pinocchio Becomes a Real Boy
Monstro | Wooden Pinocchio
Mary Margaret Forgives Regina
Regina brings Henry's lunch to school and runs into Mary Margaret. She inquires on her son's whereabouts, and Mary Margaret replies with a spiteful, "He's with his mother." Regina, sensing her hostility, wants to know what her problem is, and Mary Margaret is more than happy to let her know. Mary Margaret tells her that she knows Regina set her up, but she forgives her because she figures Regina must be such a loser if she takes pleasure in ruining other people's lives. Mary Margaret loses the spiteful tone and seems earnest when she says, "It's so sad, Mayor Mills, because despite what you feel, it won't make you happy. It's only going to leave a giant hole in your heart." Being reminded that the curse punched a giant void in her heart affects Regina almost to the point of tears.Tron Shout-Out
Henry Isn't Transferring To Another Classroom
The Evil Queen looking none too happy about being put on blast by her own son.
Regina Puts the Moves on David
Regina plays damsel in distress by feigning car trouble. With impeccable timing, she bonks her head on the raised hood of her Benz at the exact moment that David exits The Animal Shelter, which does an excellent job of getting his attention. The Blue Fairy Lies
Liar, liar tutu on fire.
Geppetto Agrees To Make the Wardrobe
The Blue Fairy finds out that the Evil Queen intends to piledrive everyone with the Dark Curse. The curse breaker is Snow and Charming's unborn daughter, and she must be saved. The Blue Fairy asks Geppetto to make a wardrobe from an enchanted tree that'll have just enough power to transport two people—Snow and Charming—safely to another world thus saving the curse breaker, Emma, by extension. Geppetto says screw that [paraphrase] if the Blue Fairy wants his help, the second spot goes to Pinocchio. Jiminy Cricket attempts to preach to Geppetto about the greater good of the realm, but Geppetto says screw you too little cricket [paraphrase] Snow can raise Emma alone. The Blue Fairy agrees to Geppetto's condition, and Geppetto builds the wardrobe. At the last minute, the Blue Fairy pops in with a change of plans. Snow has given birth and now the second spot must go to her. Again, Geppetto says screw that [again, paraphrase]. He disregards what the Blue Fairy said and deems his seven-year-old son a better caretaker for an infant than the infant's actual mother.Geppetto lays the burden of parenthood on a seven-year-old boy

Don't Lie, Pinocchio... Er...

He takes their sage advice and even reminds his father about honesty when Geppetto doesn't heed the Blue Fairy's word about sending Snow through the wardrobe instead of himself. It probably would've been more effective if August had dressed the part and discarded the biker duds, revealing this underneath:
It also would've been a lot more entertaining.

Emma's life is all Geppetto's fault. He was selfish.
ReplyDeleteThats not true, snow white would not have made it to wardrobe, even if she tried.
DeleteNot while she was giving birth but after, she and Emma could have made it.
DeleteEven if Snow couldn't have gotten there, Emma could have had her dad raise her. I mean, Charming was right there.
DeleteI think he was a jerk. He was willing to let everyone die if his son didn't go through. Then he thinks a little kid can take care of a baby? What an idiot. He didn't know where they were going. What if there was a wild animal in our world that ate Pinocchio and Emma?
DeleteHe had already lost so much. Sometimes emotion can cloud your judgement.
DeleteLogically, Geppetto should have known it was risky to leave Emma in Pinocchio's care in an unknown world, but on the flip side he had no idea just what the curse would entail either. All the Blue Fairy said was that it would rip away everything they hold dear (or something like that). He had nearly lost his son so many times before, not to mention everyone else in his life, it makes sense he would want to do whatever he could to make sure his son stays alive.
DeleteI'm just trying to present Geppetto's perspective. And to be fair, he trusted Pinocchio to look after Emma. He promised to be there for her and he wasn't. I blame Pinocchio more than Geppetto.
I blame Geppetto too. Pinocchio was 7!
DeleteAm I the only one who wanted Regina to punch MM and Henry like she did Emma?
ReplyDeleteShe would look even stupider if she did, so probably yes, you're the only one.
DeleteHenry needs to show some respect to Regina. Evil or not, she's his MOTHER.
DeleteThat's the curse working on the two of them. Maleficent warned that it would leave a hole that Regina would never be able to fill. Besides that he knows that Snow is his grandmother (even if Regina doesn't yet, though not sure about that) and he's upset with Regina for farming her.
DeleteNot his real Mom.
DeleteP.S. Who is Judy? like, Judy Garland A.K.A. Wizard of OZ?
BTW, on "Other things from episode 20: The Stranger" is says "wss" instead of Was.
P.P.S. Am I the only one that thought that was the worst and most fake-looking Pinno I've ever seen? Fist the deer, now this? They need better graphics.
Thanks, fixed. Regarding "Judy", a possible explanation has been added under the image. It should've been added with the image. Ooops. :)
DeleteSweetness, I was right!
DeleteFarming I meant framing.
DeleteJade - Regina is his mother. It takes more than giving birth to someone to be a parent. Ask Graham.
DeleteWhy don't you ask me? I AM adopted.
DeleteHenry doesn't SEE Regina as his mother. It's not a dig at adopted parents in general, but just Regina personally. It's not that Regina has just been displaced now that his ~real~ mom is back, or something. He doesn't SEE Regina as his mother with or without Emma's presence. He probably never has seen her as a mother, or atleast not since he discovered she was the EQ. She didn't give birth to him and shes evil and hurting all hsi friends and biological family members. I love Regina, she is HBIC and makes the show, but Henry has every right to hate her. Like why is this so hard for people?
DeleteThank You! Finally someone understands! It's not adopted parents,it's ONLY Regina. Besides, this is a show, and I am trying ot keep thing IN context.
DeleteGreat casting! Red hair and brown eyes turned into black hair and blue eyes hmmmm... not possible!
ReplyDeleteI expect someone that looks like Archie to be what grown up Pinocchio looks like.
DeletePeople change hair color from childhood to adulthood all the time. I've known people who've had red hair or platinum blond hair as a child that eventually became much darker as they grew older. As for the eye color thing, I don't know what to tell you. It's a show about fairy tale characters. lol
DeleteWell then why did people think he was Bealfire, who also had Brown Eyes? I doesn't matter anyway, but they do know that they have contacts that can change your eye color, right? They're actually really cheap.
DeleteRegarding change in hair color, a change from blond to darker shades is actually quite common. Before I went gray, my hair progressed from an early straw-blond to dark-brown-almost-black. However, real red hair generally stays pretty much that way. Regarding change in eye-color, interestingly enough, my irises have a progression in shade going outwards from the center, and the brown shades were longer coming in in one eye than the other, so that as a child I had basically one blue and one brown eye. In my experience, however, eyes gain brown pigment as you age rather than lose it. (This assumes that your genetic makeup is B-b hybrid, rather than b-b reinforced recessive, in which case your eye color never changes.)
DeleteFrom where I'm looking the little boy and Eion Bailey both have blue eyes. I'm super confused here.
DeletePinnochio has dark brown eyes, so did Baelfire, but Eion Bailey/August has light blue eyes.
Delete"screw you too little cricket [paraphrase]"
ReplyDeletelol
Henry is a brat. He keeps calling her the evil queen but if he saw her in one of EQ outfits throwing magic around he'd wet his pants, Emma too.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of twisted mind do you have? He's a kid, and that's his Adopted Mom! Besides, she IS an evil Queen! I really don't understand your logic.
DeleteWhat's always bugged me is why Henry hates Regina so much. I mean was she really that horrible to him all those years that when he got the book he realized that all the anger he felt towards her was justified? Or is it he started to hate her only after he got the book?
DeleteI've just always found it odd that he doesn't have one shred of affection for Regina the woman who took care of him but absolutly loves Emma the woman who left him. I mean there are other stories where the hero is the child of the villian and it always cause conflict for them cause in the end it is their parent, hell look at the 10th kingdom it took Virginia a long time to want to kill her mom, a woman who left her after trying to drown her when she was like 7.
I know. He's the only one Regina loves, even Emma can see that. I think it's the curse. He'll never love her. But it would've been better if he had been trying to be a peacemaker or try to make her see how she's wrong. Almost like what the first Henry tried to do but this Henry would actually get her to see the truth.
DeleteDoes Henry even go to school? We never see him at school! Hes always at Granny's or with Emma. Whenever they say "Shouldn't you be at school?" he doesn't respond, and the subject changes. He has a high pitch for a 10-year old.
DeleteOh, come on. Kids are smarter than you think. They can tell when someone's faking it. Henry even said "she doesn't love me, she only pretends to." and Archie said that Henry had been seeing him far before Henry ever got the book. There's always some problems w. adopted kids. I do have a little trouble picking out his logic sometimes, but if you really think about it. It makes since.
DeleteP.S. Actually, we have seen him at school. See the episode "Thing you love most." Other times, we just see him walking to school, or in the hallway, or going up the steps to school, or on the playground, sitting on the bench outside of school. So, I'm sorry, but maybe you should check before you say something that has the words "all, or never" in it.
Regina's not faking it. She really loves that brat. And what does it matter if she's his adoptive mother. Are you trying to say adoptive parents don't love their kids as much as biological parents? This is the second time you brought this up and it's not a good point. Regina is the only mother he has ever known. She's his mother.
DeleteI would agree with the whole it's an adoption thing if Henry was like Emma and adpoted later in life but Regina got him when he was a baby and while most adopted kids do want to find their birth parents there is always a bitterness to the relationship between the child and the birth parent, which Henry seems to lack.
DeleteAnd I gotta wonder if Henry seeing Dr. Hopper was because of Regina bad parenting skills or the fact that he's the only thing in town changing and being old enough to realize that what Regina is telling him isn't right.
That's not how I meant it, I just siad kids CAN tell if someone's fakin it. Regina loves him in her own twisted way. Besides, I know what i'm talking about. I am adopted and I never said that adoptive parents don't love their kids! It's a TV show. Out of context, it might seem like that's what I said, but in context it makes since. Besides, Henry does have a good reason to be spiteful at Regina. She may have been a good mother to Henry, but what about how she treats Emma? Henry see's that too. How would you like it if your Mom hated you adoptive Mom or vice versa? I know I don't.
DeleteIt just feels like Henry doesn't care about Regina AT ALL it's not just he's going against her because he knows it the right thing he flat of HATES her. He's not like Bae trying to get Regina to see the error of her ways and make her break the curse he's taunting her saying "na na your gonna lose and I'm gonna be with my real mom"
DeleteI feel like their is something were missing and with each passing episode I want to see how Regina and Henry were before Emma came into their lives more and more.
Okay, I can see that none of you agree with me but that's okay. I know from experience. Just because Henry was adopted when he was a baby doesn't mean he doesn't feel some resentment towards his Mom, but he came to understand through the Fairytale book that she did it to give him a better life, which gives him an emotional connection to the book and it's truth. If it's not true, in a sence, then maybe his whole reality about his mothers aren't either. I would, in fact, literally crush his reality. That's why he is so emotional about it. If the book isn't true, maybe his mother didn't really want to give him a better life and is just selfish etc... he would be devastated and heartbroken. Maybe his problems w. Regina started because he thought she took him away from his mother. (Remember Archie said his problems started before he got the book.) I can't make any excuses for him for before Emma came to town, but I can once she did come.
DeleteRegina flat out hates Emma, and basically tells Henry that. She tells Henry that Emma is not his mother AT ALL! SHe even lied to him, saying that Emma was a con and just trying to take eadvantage of him. Trust me, I understand this fight. Also, she tried to frame Emma. plus, Henry isn't the only one anymore who believes. What about Graham? Henry knows the truth about that too, because Graham came to him, and believed him. August also told him he belives, but is actually a terrible example for Henry to follow. And, Henry is hte one who gathered the evidence against Regina for framing MM! Think about these things from Henry's view. He has a whole lot of reasons.
I agree, he still needs to be respectful of Regina, because she did raise him, but you have no right to call him a brat. It's just normal emotions. You also have to remember, he is still a kid, and can't comprehend everythig like an adult, because he isn't one.
P.S. Also, anon, he wasn't taunting her and you can clearly see that. He is a kid and needs to get his emotions out, he can't just keep them bottled up forever, it can make you depressed. He should have been more polite, but that was not taunting, it was anger, anger that he felt was justified. You can choose wheather or not it was, but I can understand where Henry is coming from, even though he is just a character in a TV show. Some things you just can't understand unless you've been through them. (Not that I have an Evil Queen for a mother, but I do understand the emotional problems he's having)
I know we saw him in school! But that's pretty much the only time we ever see him at school. Just sayin'
DeleteI don't think Henry cares about Regina. Why? Because he knows she is a monster. She has murdered numerous people including the father who loved her, she tries to get Henry to think he crazy, the threatens people, and she's cursed and entire world. I say good for him.
DeleteIf you know that we saw him in school, why did you say,"Does Henry even go to school?"? And, Like I said, we've seen him outside the school or going into the school.
DeleteI loved the scene where Gold got his revenge on August for what he did last ep by making August reunite with his actual dad paying a handyman to repair an antique clock $150, the look on August's face when he realizes he's been set up priceless :)
ReplyDeleteHow the hell do you guys identify those comic books? The whole book isn't even shown. Anyhoo, does the comic have anything to do with the episode?
ReplyDeleteI think the people who run this site are affiliated with the show. There are things I've read here that would be impossible for a fan to know or spot.
DeleteI recently bought the comic Henry had on his bed, so I recognized the partial cover showing the Avengers squaring off against the X-Men. Here's what the full cover looks like: AvX 1.
DeleteIt's about the return of a powerful being--The Phoenix. Basically, the good guys have differing opinions on how to deal with her. One side sees her as their savior while the other sees her as a threat, and since everyone is super-powered, it's on like Donkey Kong. There's also a character named Nova. So, if you stand on your head and squint really hard you might see a connection to Once. ;)
You should star to rethink your definition of impossible.
DeleteThe comic sounds a little like Emma. Maybe it was more than "shameless plugs".
DeleteOkay, I just watched Chapter 13 I will find you:, (if you don't know what they are look them up on Youtube), and I noticed a few things. (I'mputting them on separate comments in case anyone wants to comment.
ReplyDeleteOkay, Robert Carlyle said that Rumple has been looking for Baelfire for hundereds of years, which definitly puts him farther back in the timeline, so if Cora is the millers daughter, she's pretty old. Maybe the magic keeps you from aging, it did w. the Blue fairy.
Also, I just realized this, I guess we were all sitll in shock about Baelfire nad forgot to keep thinking, but, now that we know that August isn't Baelfire, who is? Idea's anyone?
ReplyDeleteI have no clue at all. Maybe we'll find out in season 2.
DeleteAnd ferthermore, we still don't know why AUgust wanted to control RUmple in the first place
ReplyDeleteHe wanted him to cure his "sickness".
DeleteBut how?
DeleteI think he thought that the dark ones magic could stop him from turning back into wood.
DeletePossibly, but that was fairy magic, remember, so it probably would have brought him to a dead end anyway. Remember when Rumple said that fairy magic doesn't mix well "with what I am."Of course, even though August wrote the book, he doesn't know everything, so he could have assumed automatically what Rumple could help him, when actually, the only way is for him mto cure himself by being honest and courageous and brave. I hope we'll see that happen.
DeleteYeah I really think August was just desperate, and scared of dying, and would try anything to live. He knew Rumpel WAS magic so maybe he could still work magic? Also, forget the good vs evil magic nonsense for a second. Lots of desperate people in FTL went to Rumpel for deals to help them, knowing it came at a price (Ella, Snow, etc), so the fact that it's dark magic shouldn't matter to a man who is turning back into a block of wood.
DeleteLast but not least, it completely skipped my minde that Jimminy was in on that lie in the war council!
ReplyDeletei love the first scene when emma & august were talking and emma said
ReplyDeletemagical mistery tour, the beatles shout-out
Thanks, added. :)
DeleteI wouldn't go so far as to say that Geppetto hasn't forgiven Jiminy Cricket, but he definitely hasn't forgotten. There's a difference.
ReplyDeleteRe: The first clip: What a sweet scene between father and son!
ReplyDeleteAnyone notice whrn Regina was telling David that Henry was with Archie, there was these little chiese figures in the backround. Mulan?
ReplyDeleteyou mean Chinese? Possibly. Most people think no, becuase she was a "historical" figure, like Pocahontas. But it's more like king Aurthur. no one knows if she was real or not. And they had auturian legend in ONCE before, so who's to say they can't use Mulan?
DeleteOMG! Every time I hear the song "Payphone" by Maroon5 I think of ONCE. You guys HAVE to make a vid for that. But, not the one w. the rapper and please do the clean version. So, basically the one you hear on the radio. Still it fits perfectly.
ReplyDelete"I know it's hard to remember, the people we used to be." "If happy ever after did exist, I would still be holdin' you like this, and all those fairy tales are full of it"
and I have some Ideas for the other lines, like Graham and Regina for "I wasted my nights, you turned out the lights" and Emma and Henry (or MM and PC) for lines like "It's even harder to picture, that you're not here next to me." the payphon could be anything, but I usually think of August on the rodery phone. "Still stuck in that time" would be the clock, and if you can, Henry saying either "Time is [frozen] here." or "That clock has never moved [a day] in my life." or Rumple saying "Time will stop. I don't know if you could do that, but it's been done before if you have the time.
Then, on "even the sun sets in paradise" could be when the fog/curse engulfes the castle.
Anyway it's awesome how similar the song is to ONCE and I would love to be able to actually see what I'm imagining in my head.
BTW, it's really hard to find the clean non rap verson, so if you have to pick between them, I just have to say that the rap completely ruins the song, so, non rap version please. ;) (That is, if you decide to do it. YOu should have plenty of time after the season finalie. :(
So, I have a question. If August went to the hospital, would Dr. Whale try to eat him? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, good. my comments loaded. I thought I'd been blocked or something.
