Once Upon a Time | Stuff From 1x16

Besides drilling it into our heads that evil is made, not born, here are a few more things from 1x16 Heart of Darkness.

Red Lets The Wolf Out To Play

Red saves Charming in a stupendous exhibition of awesomeness sprinkled with liberal amounts of kick-ass.

Snow White Attacks A Bluebird

Once Upon a Time reenacts a deleted scene from Disney's classic Snow White

The lofty intro was funny enough, but when Snow attacked the bird with a smile and a song, the hilarity factor shot up ten notches.

Snow's Intervention

The dwarfs have taken to Snow, but they find Evil Snow rather distasteful. Her poor attitude, constant disregard for Sneezy's allergies and inciting Happy to become Un-Happy lead the dwarfs to take action. They have an intervention for her complete with letters detailing Snow's abominable behavior. Comedy ensues as Evil Snow lashes out like a cornered crackhead then leaves the intervention on a mission: kill The Queen. She also covers Jiminy Cricket--who is a sort of conscience incarnate--symbolically covering her own conscience in the process.

Snow Has A Misery Moment

Stephen King shout-out?

After clotheslining one of The Queen's men, Snow channels Annie Wilkes and hobbles him with a pick axe.

The Evidence Mounts Up Against Mary Margaret

Exhibit A: The jewelry box that contained Kathryn's heart.

Exhibit B: The alleged murder weapon that couldn't have been more obvious if it had a large blinking neon sign and a costumed character pointing to it's location.

Exhibit C: An evil queen who hasn't forgotten that you're the source of her distress and who equates you with the Bubonic plague.

Evil Doesn't Always Look Evil

Isn't it ironic, don't cha' think?

Regina describes herself when she says, "Evil doesn't always look evil. Sometimes it's staring right as us and we don't even realize it." And, "She is a woman who's had her heart broken and that--that can make you do unspeakable things." She's either being a delusional hypocrite, or she's having a good time trolling Emma and David. We vote for the latter.

The Book

The Golden Bird makes another appearance.

Snow Misses Her Target... Or Did She?

Make sure you have Ghost Pro, Hardened Pro, and Ninja Pro equipped

Snow White seeks Rumpelstiltskin's aid in her quest to make Regina unalive. He gives her an enchanted bow and arrow, claiming that any arrow fired from said bow, "will get you exactly what you need, it always finds its target." He also gives her the perfect sniping spot to assassinate the Queen.

Snow locates the sniping spot, fires the arrow at Regina—and misses because Charming leaps into the arrow's path. The arrow pierces his chest, and Charming pours his heart out to her, proclaiming his love for her. He tells her he'd rather die than see her heart fill with darkness, which is what would've happened had she killed Regina. As it turns out, if you kill someone evil, all their evil transfers to you, which smells a lot like the practice of killing your enemy then consuming him to gain his strength. This might imply that Regina commited matricide thus absorbing all of her mother's wickedness.

Snow: "You would die for me?"
Charming: "Does it look like I'm making this up!"

Charming's gesture touches Snow, and she realizes he would die for her. She kisses him, and the effects of Rumpelstiltskin's forgetful potion disappear, and Snow remembers she loves Charming.

Rumpelstiltskin and Charming

"It's drafty in here."

Rumpelstiltskin with his quirky mannerism is always good for a laugh. He uses baby talk on Charming and utters, "twoo wuv," instead of, "true love." Maybe he's speaking that way to make it easier for Charming to understand him, maybe he's being condescending, or maybe the pronunciation of "true love" escapes him at times because he spoke the same way to Regina. Whatever the reason, it's amusing.

Rumpelstiltskin Manufactures Love

CSI: Fairy Tale Land

Rumpelstiltskin claims that love is the most powerful magic and with it you can do anything. He combines a strand of Charming's hair and a strand of Snow's hair to concoct "love", which he then displays in a bottle. It hasn't been revealed yet if there is a number "9" on the bottle, or if drinking the potion provokes unrestrainable lust in members of the opposite sex that are within earshot. Scientists are working on that...

Regina's Crest [Coat of Arms]

David Doubts Mary Margaret

Get. Out. You fair-weather, wimpy, turncoat bastard.*
*Note: everything after "Out" was added by OUaT Fan Site.

Although his memory is hazier than the LA skyline, David believes that his half-formed memory of him telling Snow White not to kill Regina is actually a memory of him telling Mary Margaret not to kill Kathryn. Mary Margaret cannot believe David is wishy-washy after she stood by him. She tells him to GTFO, minus the "TF" part, which she expresses non-verbally with her countenance and turning her back on him.

Bambi?

Mr. Gold is a Lawyer

Don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer.

  1. Anyone else catch a significant change in Red Riding Hood - the fact that yes she changes into a wolf, this time intentionally, but it's strongly implied that she doesn't kill the soldiers, suggesting she must now have some control over her ability.

    1. I did. She threw off her cloak too like she knew she could control the change and turn back.

    2. May have something to do with the fact that she finally is aware of the fact that she is a wolf... she didn't know until Snow and Granny told her.

    3. She doesn't have control, there were just alot of them, and horses are fast. Why else do you think she told PC she was giving him a head start?

  2. Anyone think the potion next to the love potion, has somthing to do with The Dark Curse?

    1. I think he used the love potion to make the curse. The curse is the most powerful curse and love is the most powerful magic.

  3. Evil Snow White was funny, bring her back.

  4. Anyone think that Kathryn might *not* be dead? I mean...it's a show about magic, you know? I mean on one hand, Regina can just pull someone's heart out and it doesn't kill them. On the other hand, not sure what the lab had to do to perform the DNA tests...

David is an ass! I mean, he doesn't even seem to be the same person as Charming at all. The fact that he lied to everyone when he told Mary Margaret he would tell Kathryn the truth, and now he's not even going to stand by her. Snow deserves better even though she's destined to end up with him!

    1. I think she's alive. She's from fairy tale world so she can live without her heart, but I think she'll be empty.

    2. When Regina had Gramham's heart, he was still alive. So, Kathryn is alive.

    3. There's 2 kinds of heart rippings. One that kills where the actual heart is ripped out, like Daddy and Kathyrn. Graham was an esscence of heart rip out. It wasn't his physical heart. Only when Regina crushed it, he then died.

So if the heart in the box was Kathryn--Then she is dead.

    4. but if the heart in the box matched kathryn's dna, that doesn't necessarily mean she had her heart removed while in storybrooke. the evil queen could have ripped it out in fairytale world, like graham, and kathryn came to our world without it, like graham, still alive. the queen could have just placed the heart she retrieved previously into the box in order to frame mary margaret. the dna would still be a match for kathryn, because that is something they retain despite the curse.

    5. I was the OP for the "Kathryn's not dead" reply. Two words: Called. It. :)

    7. I KNEW she was alive!

    8. Since when was the heart Regina took from him not his physical heart?

  5. Does anyone even remember that Rump might be trying to cure his own curse? (After Regina has been taken care of, otherwise he can't afford to be vulnerable, but after she is dead, he can find "twoo wuv" and be normal again!

    1. I love that scene too. I hope we get to see more of Red changing to the wolf.

  7. I love you for knowing who Reba is.

    1. What do you mean? Who's Reba?

      Delete
    2. @HeartofDixie - Yes, Reba is the shiznitz.
@Anonymous - HeartofDixie is referring to the caption under Mr. Gold; it's a line from one of Reba McEntire's songs, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia Lyrics" [originally by Vickie Lawrence].

  8. What is the Eye Of Thundera and what are the other symbols under the potions?

    1. The Eye Of Thundera is a Thundercats reference. Yeah, we're lame like that. As for the other symbols, [??].

  9. Okay - Mr. Gold "taking inventory": is he not-so-subtly implying that Sidney (who, as we know, would do anything for Regina) killed Kathryn/Abigail and left the evidence for Regina to plant?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I thought it was implying that Sydney would be the one to help Emma take Regina down.

  10. I forgive you for the hazy LA crack only because of the Love Potion #9 joke. lol

  11. If Kathryn does turn up again in Storybrooke, someone is going to have some serious explaining to do. Answering the question of how the hell is she walking around with no heart could be interesting to explain. And, from what we've seen of Regina's vault-o'-evil, it's entirely possible that she had Abigail's heart, and just popped in in MM jewellery box for the hell of it. I reckon Kathryn's gotta be alive. Maybe she's in the room next to Belle in the psych ward?

Also, I'm looking forward to Prince James' next encounter with Rumple, which we know happens cos James was wearing the cloak in the first ep when he kisses Snow White and wakes her up. So...the question becomes, when will he next see Rumple, and why?
